Over the last couple of decades, international integrations (including the enlargement of the EU) have had a decisive influence on the awareness of the importance of knowledge for societies’ welfare. A key element in this process has been international cooperation at all levels of education and training [and their research]. The centrality of international cooperation in education and training thus confirms both the theoretical justification as well as the practical necessity of continuous research and exchange of experiences that go beyond individual education systems.
As a central catalyst for change and modernization as well as a source of the most important innovations, research in education and training is a regular companion of school reforms and other ‘systemic’ changes. The efforts of policymakers, experts and educators as well as the general public are therefore aimed at strengthening international cooperation. This is being confirmed by numerous projects, programs and other initiatives in the field of education, e.g. conducting large-scale assessment studies. International cooperation is, therefore, one of the paths towards a higher quality of work as well as a source of new approaches to teaching and learning.
The Educational Research Institute, the Slovenian Educational Research Association (SLODRE) together with the Centre of the Republic of Slovenia for Mobility and European Educational and Training Programmes (CMEPIUS) organise the 4th annual scientific conference ‘Research in Education and Training’. The conference will take place on 18. and 19. September 2019, at the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Novi trg 2, Ljubljana).
The main goal of the ‘Research in Education and Training’ annual scientific conference is the dissemination of research results and the exchange of experiences, identification of key issues, challenges and obstacles in education as well as the promotion and development of research in general. This year’s conference (with the subtitle ‘International Cooperation as Support to Education and Training’) also aims at highlighting the role and importance of international cooperation in supporting education and training. Nevertheless, the conference remains open to all other approaches, orientations and topics.
